Archery, climbing the high wall, tunnels, three different beaches, ice cream, eight ball and a tyre swing were just some of the exciting things that were enjoyed at the Grade 4 camp in Orford this year.
The children had a very enjoyable time participating in many activities, sharing meals together and sleeping in comfortable rooms at the Spring Bay Youth Camp. The kids even ran into Mrs Brooks at the Orford Bowls Club, where she taught them the basics of Lawn Bowls. Thanks so much to all involved in this year’s camp; it was relaxing and a fun time appeared to be had by all.

Last week, 48 of our Grade 4 students set off to Spring Beach Youth Camp in Orford. There was a buzz of excitement as we worked together to unpack the bus, and discovered who would be sharing cabins. After setting up our rooms, we took a short drive to Rheban Beach, where everyone delighted in exploring the shoreline in the hopes of discovering a coveted cowrie shell, before returning for a barbecue dinner and a night-time possum walk.
Tuesday was packed with activities, starting with a beach walk with Mr Rickwood for the early risers. Students practiced their Wicked dance routine, before rotating through archery, the commando course, low ropes, number hockey, and quiet games/painting. After lunch, we had another dance practice and ice-cream, before heading to Shelly Beach for another walk and play at the park. One of the highlights of the day was the Student vs. Staff game show, hosted by Mrs De La Torre, which included eating dry Weetbix, trivia questions, funny challenges like scooping up cotton balls whilst blindfolded, and plenty of laughter! We rounded out the evening with spaghetti, garlic bread, a game of Pirate’s Deck, followed by a couple of Mr. Bean episodes to wind down before bed.
On Wednesday, we packed up and prepared our lunches before heading to try our hand at lawn bowls in Orford. We were greeted joyfully by our previous principal, Mrs Bernadette Brooks, who led us through some fun warm-ups before sending us off in groups to try out several bowls activities. To our delight, we were invited into the clubrooms afterwards for a cold drink and a snack. Our final stop was Richmond, where everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch in the Village Green, a play at the park, and of course, a very popular visit to the lolly shop! Tired but happy, we returned to school just in time for the end of day bell.
Our camp was a wonderful mix of fun, friendship, and learning, and we are so proud of the way our Grade 4 students embraced the experiences with enthusiasm. A huge thank you to the staff who attended for their support (Chelsea, James, Gabby, Nikeeta, Teacher Tom, Mrs Fisher, Mrs Scharvi, Mr Rickwood, and Mrs De La Torre)!
