News from Grade 1
Term 3 has been very busy in Grade 1, and we are all ready for a two-week break.
During Term 3, we planted fruit and vegetables in our very own garden beds (thank you Mr Jones and Mr Riza for building them and purchasing our supplies). Students worked together to dig, plant and tend to the garden. Students are learning about how plants grow, how to be responsible by caring for the plants and how gardening can help reduce stress, improve focus and support emotional regulation.
Students have also had several opportunities to cook and prepare food this term. We have cooked pizza, made fruit kebabs and chocolate balls for Father’s Day. This provides opportunity for students to use maths in real life situations, measuring ingredients and sharing between groups. Cooking encourages teamwork, confidence and responsibility.

On Friday, August 22nd Grade 1 students went to Bunnings where they explored the store, they enjoyed drumming on the paint tins especially. Students built toolboxes for Father’s Day, which we decorated when we returned to school. Mrs Dean and Aarna especially loved running into Milly the Dulux Dog.

In Literacy, we have been learning how to write a narrative, and that a good narrative has a clear beginning, middle and end. In Numeracy, we have been counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s as well as learning the algorithm, how to stack two-digit numbers for addition and subtraction within 100.
