On Tuesday 19th October our Holy Rosary Catholic School leaders attended the Launch Of Catholic Mission Month at a Mass at St Therese's Church in Moonah. Our school will be holding a Crazy Sock day fundraising event on Friday, 29th October. This year, students across Australia will learn about the missionary work of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Thailand who, through their Kindergarten Centre, are bringing about generational change to some of the poorest communities in Bangkok. Our leaders represented our school proudly and reverently. We look forward to celebrating Mission Week activities in week three. Thank you to Mrs Piesse for accompanying these students to the Mass, which was celebrated by Archbishop Porteous.

Did you know that 1 in 10 people are dyslexic?
This month is Dyslexia Awareness Month. You may have noticed that some buildings have been illuminated in red light to raise awareness.
At HRCS we support students with dyslexia by making daily, personalised adjustments so that all learning can be accessed and expressed by all.
We run intensive, teacher lead and dyslexia friendly interventions. Within classrooms, we focus on the 5 essential areas of evidence based Literacy Instruction; Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension.
As teachers and parents it is our job to support students with dyslexia and to ensure that children see their dyslexia as the super power it can be. Some of the most creative, successful and innovative people are dyslexic and it is our job to understand, value and support students with dyslexia so that they can achieve amazing things.

The new Kindergarten playspace at the front of the ELC is looking amazing and should be completed by mid-November. Our Prep building continues to make progress with the steelwork commencing in the coming weeks.
If parents know that they will not be continuing enrolment of their child/children at Holy Rosary in 2022 please let the Office know as soon as possible. The realities around budgets in schools rely heavily on maintaining the right numbers of students. It helps our school out immensely with maintaining staffing, allocating resources and balancing classes whether any students will be moving schools. It also assists in allowing families on waiting lists an opportunity for a space.
On Monday 18th October, a letter in relation to Class Compositions for 2022 was sent out to parents via Compass. Any requests must be put in writing, sent via email or addressed to the Principal by Wednesday 27th October. We do state that the process of class composition takes us considerable time and discernment, therefore any parent requests received after 27th October will not be considered. Requests must be submitted on an annual basis, following consultation with your child’s teacher. Please note that only those requests based on sound educational or social reasons that are the result of a teacher consultation will be considered.
Please note that Friday 22nd October is a student free day. This is the day after Show Day.
A reminder to dig out your child’s school hat as these will once again be required when your child is outside in Term 4. New hats can be purchased from the uniform shop which is open during school terms on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2.15 pm – 3.15 pm or through using the QKR App. If purchasing through the QKR App, the hat will be sent to your child’s class for them to bring home.
Parents are respectfully asked not to get out of their cars at Kiss and Drop. Students should be ready to exit their car upon pulling into one of the drop zones. This means, if practical, that they also have their bag with them and it is zipped up ready to go.
If needed, the teacher on duty will help your child get out of the car and put their bag on their back. If you have a younger child and need to help them out of the car we request that you please park your car and walk them down, as it can significantly hold up traffic if parents need to get out to help their child.
If Grandparents or other family members / friends are dropping your child to school we ask that you please pass this message on to them as well.
If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment or another reason, we would really appreciate it if parents could let the office know at the beginning of the day. The afternoon is often an extremely busy time in the office and ringing with short notice makes informing your child and their class teacher challenging. This early notice will allow us to ensure that your child is waiting at the office for you to collect them.
