Dear Parents
Last week was Teacher Aide Appreciation Week and we took the opportunity to say thank you to all our support staff in classrooms, the office and maintenance & grounds. On Thursday the school hosted a morning tea to celebrate our Teacher Aides and non-teaching staff and all they contribute to Holy Rosary Catholic School. These staff encourage our students with patience and care and for that we are grateful. When you have the right people in a school, the students get the best modelling of the young adults we are aspiring them to be. We need to have an attitude of gratitude for our staff and all that they do, and many of us do not even realise they do above and beyond their core work.
As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 restrictions I would like to thank parents for their understanding, our students have missed so many activities and we are looking forward to Term 4 to begin some of our more usual activities such as Learn to Swim, Gymnastics and more excursions. Unfortunately we continue to be hampered by our ability to accommodate parents at events such as Assemblies and Book Parades. Due to the number of students and staff we do not have the capacity to invite parents and adhere to the COVID-19 social distancing requirements for adults. We will endeavour to continue to take many photos, provide Zoom links for assemblies and live stream where possible.
Kind Regards
Bernadette Brooks
Special Blessing for Fathers
On Wednesday our Grade Twos and Grade Fours celebrated a Father’s Day Mass with Fr Suresh in our St Bernard’s Church. We sang, gave thanks and celebrated the special roles our Fathers, Grandfathers and Uncles play in our lives at Holy Rosary.
For new dads, who are amazed by their little ones who have changed their lives in so many glorious ways.
Lord Hear Us
For all our Fathers in our community. May they continue to love and nurture their children and cherish the precious gift of fathering. May they offer friendship, support and encouragement to each other.
Lord Hear Us.
For Fathers who have to be away from home, that their families would be comforted by the sacrifices that their fathers make.
Lord Hear Us.
For those who fulfil the role of a father. That they too would experience our thanks.
Lord Hear us.
For all our dads, grandfathers and uncles who have died. We give thanks for their love, their laughter and their labour. We give thanks for the way they shaped our values, our faith and our family traditions and rituals. May they rest in peace.
Lord Hear us.
We pray for Father Suresh, Archbishop Julian and the Pope. That they will look after us as our Church Fathers.
Lord Hear us.
Well what an intriguing 2020 it has been in HPE! After beginning the year with the swimming carnival locked in, planned and ready to go, the Wuhan lurgy reached our shores and decimated any chance of group aquatic pursuits. As Term 2 ticked around the shadow of Covid-19 was permanently cast upon us and the cancellation of the Cross Country Carnival followed swiftly. (Insert sad emoji).
We rejoiced however as the HPE Department were slightly prepared for such an interruption and set about developing and implementing an at home program that (hopefully) kept idle children and parents motivated and invigorated, as they navigated the strange world of ‘lockdown’.
As winter began its cold and frosty takeover of Autumn, students again began filing through the doors and returning HRCS to some sense of normality. Our sport leaders returned to their duties assisting and inspiring the next gen of HRCS legends. Miss Wise finally mastered the battery operated ball pump, Mrs Ludwig had the Kinder & Preps honing the basics with military precision and Mr Johnson ensured he washed his hands at least once a day.
The netball and basketball courts were again alive with developing shooting techniques, dubious dribbling and an extensive variety of playground banter and questionable ‘self umpiring’. Add to this the introduction of the mudslide program under the tree near the oval and HRCS was again the beating heart of quality Health and Physical Education in Claremont.
5/6 sport returned with an abbreviated roster and smaller Round Robin tournament. HRCS teams again displayed a great capacity to engage and participate with positivity and really demonstrated what ‘Holy Rosary Spirit’ really looks like. A big thanks to our 5/6 team of teachers who stood up as coaches and team managers this year. In particular Miss Walter who in her first year took a group of rag tag 5’s and 6’s and turned them into a formidable netball force, akin to Emiliio Estevez in ‘The Mighty Ducks’. I would also like to publicly thank Mrs Sonja Fletcher for volunteering her time to coach a team. A massive thank you to everyone involved from the HPE team!
Along with the successes of our teams we also had 8 individuals who were selected to compete in the Franklin v Clarke regional tournament. Congratulations Ava, Leila, Imogen, Julia, Lucas, Ben, Hunter and Mitchell.
As term 4 approaches like Cathy Freeman on the home straight at the 2000 Olympics, the HPE department has been working tirelessly to fit in as many experiences as possible to make up for the rude interruption that was the Corona Virus. Gymnastics (Kinder), Learn To Swim (P-6), Milo Cricket & Hot Shots Tennis, highlight some of the major events coming in term 4.
I would like to sincerely thank Sue Reardon, Jacki Jones, Sharon Goldsworthy and Naomi Wakefield for their huge amount of support throughout term 3 in regards to bus bookings, event planning, first aid etc, we simply could not function without you here in HPE!
As part of Grade 6s unit on Democracy and Government, they participated in two ‘sittings’ of parliament today. The morning saw Shadow Minister for Education Josh Willie visit for a Q + A and parliamentary role play on a ‘No homework bill’. In the afternoon Federal MP Andrew Wilkie visited for a Q + A and a parliamentary role play on 'Lowering the voting age'. The students dressed up in business attire for the occasion and were amazing throughout the experience. Well done to all and thank you to Mr Willie and Mr Wilkie for their time.
We want to assure families of the importance of their child's enrolment at Holy Rosary Catholic School, and we want to ease any financial pressure families may be put under due to economic factors. As communicated previously, if any family is experiencing financial hardship please do not hesitate to email me (bernie.brooks@catholic.tas.edu.au). We want to take this opportunity to be clear that no child will be denied a Catholic Education based on financial reasons. Your child's enrolment is important to us and we want to support all families the best we can in these challenging circumstances. Please do not hesitate to email me.
If parents know that they will not be continuing enrolment of their child/children at Holy Rosary Catholic School in 2021 please let the Office know as soon as possible, as we have students on a waiting list for positions.
At regular intervals and also daily on our flashing sign we ask parents to refrain from parking in front of the shops. We do understand the challenges of parking and it is a challenge in the majority of schools across Hobart. However please remember when you park in front of the shops you are parking in front of businesses who rely on customers being able to access parking.
Could all parents please assist us in ensuring that students are wearing the correct uniform on the correct day. We have a number of students in Grade 3 to 6 who continue to wear their sports uniform on days when they do not have sport. Students in Grade 3 to 6 must also wear their formal school shoes with their formal uniform, not sports shoes.
A note from a parent is required for any variations to the uniform expectations. It is also advisable for students to have a raincoat.
