Dear Parents/Guardians
The return to full-time, face-to-face learning in schools on Monday 25th May is an exciting time for students and teachers and may be a blessed relief for many parents and carers. It may also be a time of immense stress, many of our students have not been on our school site for over 10 weeks, longer than any holiday break. For some, this transition will be filled with as much anxiety as the first day of school or the school year. Being prepared and catering for our students potential needs and wellbeing should be one of our highest priorities. Our focus will be on reconnecting, relationships, and routines.
As Principal of HRCS I continue to work with our staff community for the integration of COVID-19 restrictions within previously established routines and learning structures to ensure as ‘normal’ a school experience as possible for students. Clear communication and planning are ways to reduce anxiety around the transition process for everyone and all communication sent home has been with this in mind. All parents are asked to ensure they have read the following communication Letter to parents 13th May 2020 that was sent through Compass last week. I do apologise for the lengths of some communications but there is often a significant amount of information that we are asked to communicate to parents.
We very much look forward to welcoming back all our students on Monday 25th May. Parents are asked to ensure that all students are in the correct uniform each day as this will certainly assist with settling back into our routines.
Kind Regards
Bernadette Brooks
Last week members of CatholicCare Tasmania and the Catholic Education Tasmania Early Years Partnership Team visited Holy Rosary Catholic School. We are one of 5 Catholic schools statewide working together in bringing Early Learning and Care Centres to life for the commencement of 2021. Over the coming months we will be working together to plan the introduction of Early Learning for three year olds. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with Catholic Education through this collaboration which will see a CatholicCare and Catholic Education 3-5 year old Early Learning and Care Centre co-located at Catholic schools. It will complement our current CatholicCare programs and wrap around services already in schools, such as Before and After School Care, Parenting Programs and School Counselling.
Holy Rosary and The Library Department would like to thank the Unger famaily for their very generous donation of books for our school library.
Thank you to the Principal, Mr Luch Brighella, and the staff of Sacred Heart Geeveston for the beautiful morning tea they provided for our staff acknowledging the difficult start to our school year due to the classroom fires. They also gave us a $300 donation to replace items lost in the fires.
Catholic Education Tasmania in conjunction with DOE, Health Department and other Government Agencies have developed a comprehensive plan to manage the effects of the Coronavirus particularly with regard to implications for schools, staff and students across the state.
We ask all parents and guardians to pay particular attention to the regular updates that are being sent out through COMPASS.
For the latest general information, go to www.health.gov.au/health-topics/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov (Australian Government Department of Health) or www.health.tas.gov.au (Tasmanian Government Department of Health or phone the national coronavirus health informatoin line, 1800 020 080.
In the midst of this incredibly challenging and changing time we continue to make progress with our building program. The support we have received from CET, Adam Mulcahy our Facilities Manager, Maveric Builders and Bence & Mulcahy our architects has been incredible. I personally would like to thank and acknowledge Sue Reardon, our Business Manager who attends all site meetings and manages our school site in such an exceptional way
Stage 1- The Grade 1 block is now finished and students will commence using this space from Week 2. Mrs Hannah Fitzpatrick and Mrs Mandy King are to be sincerely thanked for setting up these spaces in such an inviting way in a time when they are still managing to support our Learning@Home Program.
Stage 2- Maveric Builders have been awarded the contract for the refurbishment and build of the fire damaged Grade 2 and 3 classrooms. Stage 2 now consists of Grade 2 and 3 learning spaces, the Canteen, Library, Student Resource Hub, Toilets, Learning Support, Therapy Rooms and Mapali, our Sensory Space. It is hoped this Stage will be completed by the end of September.
Stage 3- Is the redevelopment of the EYC for the 3 year old program. The very early plans that are being developed at this moment include the present Kinder and Prep spaces becoming the 3 year old program, 4 year old Kinders and 3 to 5 year old care provisions for days when 3 and 4 year olds are not attending the program. We are currently investigating what the plans will look like for a new Prep space to be built.
If you use the Kiss and Drop Area could you please email the school office or pop into the office to request a sign for display in your car. The sign prepared will be A4 in size and laminated. It will have your family name and the names of your child/children on it.
We are asking for the sign to be displayed in the front window of your car or held up as you pull into the Kiss and Drop area. This will continue to assist with a quick and efficient pick up process.
Parents are advised not to line up past the school driveway for Kiss and Drop. It may be necessary to drive around the block if there is a line up. Tasmanian Police make random checks in Wyndham Road and will not hesitate to book people who are holding up the flow of traffic at the time. Please be assured your children will be supervised while waiting at Kiss and Drop until you arrive.
So many of our students past and present are doing incredible things and we would love to celebrate and acknowledge this more. If you have an achievement you would like to share with us either through our newsletter or our Facebook page send through to bernie.brooks@catholic.tas.edu.au with a photo and a short description.
2020 Student Leadership at Dominic College
Each year Dominic College appoints a team of student leaders to represent and provide guidance for our students.
Two College Captains, and two College Vice-Captains are elected each year along with four House Captains for each of our four houses; Siena, Bosco, Savio and Guzman. There is one House Captain per house for each of the following areas: academic, sports, mission and creative arts. Dominic College also has a Student Representative Council (SRC) made up of one student representative in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 from each house who join our four College Captains to form this group.
Holy Rosary is to be commended that this year two of our leaders are from your school; Jackie Van Lierop (Year 10 College Captain and SRC Member) and Brooke Applebee (Year 10 Guzman House Mission Captain).
Jackie and Brooke are outstanding students at Dominic College who have excellent leadership skills.
At Dominic College we are grateful for the important foundation given to students from Holy Rosary.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Excursion
On Thursday our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enjoyed exploring the educational experience, ‘Where the sun goes to sleep’ at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. The students learnt all about what the West Coast of Tasmania means to Tasmanian Aboriginal People. We have so much to learn from a long rich history of innovation, community and care for our land. Thank you to our staff, Mrs Sarah Dance, Mrs Sally Coad, Mrs Di Bourke and Mrs Danielle Previdi who accompanied the students and our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Isalnder Key Teacher Mrs Catherine Midson for her organization of this experience.

The Holy Rosary Catholic School Parent Circle is a group of motivated parents, who in a voluntary capacity, hold events to build community and engagement between school and home.
The group runs regular events such as the Easter raffle, Mother and Father day stall, disco and any other events parents may wish to plan. Last year the Parent Circle fundraising contributed nearly $20 000 to our new play equipment which will be installed next month.
The group meets once a term where everyone is welcome to attend with ideas big or small and to offer any amount of assistance you wish to support the school, the group and ultimately our students. Please keep an eye out on our Holy Rosary Catholic School Parent Circle Facebook page for our upcoming meeting. We desperately need parents to join us in this group.
We are aware that self isolation has meant that providing the original Birth Certificates is somewhat difficult and so Catholic Education Tasmania has made allowances for this. Enrolment Applications or an Expression of Interest can be downloaded from the website and emailed/mailed to the school. However we advise that the Enrolment Application can be processed and provisional enrolment confirmed until the original Birth Certificate is sighted at the school office or a certified copy of the original Birth Certificate is produced.
