Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last week, our Catholic community commenced the period of Lent. Lent is a meaningful time of reflection, prayer, and preparation leading up to Easter. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Our Grade 3-6 classes participated in Mass last week on Ash Wednesday, and for our Kindergarten to Grade 2 students, Fr Suresh and Mrs Scharvi visited classrooms and distributed the ashes on their foreheads.
Ash Wednesday can be explained in a simple and meaningful way:
- A Fresh Start – It’s like pressing the "reset" button in a video game. Ash Wednesday is a time to start fresh and try to be better.
- Saying Sorry – The ashes remind us to say sorry for the wrong things we’ve done and to try to be kinder, more loving, and closer to God.
- God’s Love – Even though we make mistakes, God always forgives us and loves us. The cross on our forehead shows that we belong to Him.
- Helping Others – Lent is a time to share, help, and pray for others, just as Jesus taught us.
Thank you to the many families who came in last week and met with their child’s classroom teachers for Parent-Teacher conversations. These are a good way to start the academic year and a wonderful opportunity to meet and share information.
This week our Grade 3 and 5 students have been participating in NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN for Grade 3 and 5 students is just a snapshot of their progress at one point in time. It doesn’t define their overall abilities, potential, or future success. Learning is a continuous journey, and a single test can’t capture all the skills, creativity, and strengths a child possesses. They are helpful in identifying the strengths and areas for growth for our students and for providing information on where teaching strategies can better cater for student needs. Well done to our students who have put in their best efforts this week!
Kindergarten interviews for 2026 have commenced. I love this time of year and the opportunity for parents to share insights about their child’s strengths, interests, and any concerns. Applications for new families and siblings close on May 9th. Enrolment forms are available on the school website or from the school office.
