Kindergarten to Grade 2 Athletics Carnival
As the sun began to rise over the mighty Derwent, the HPE dept, the maintenance team, and the energetic Sports Leaders descended onto Abbotsfield Park; one of the iconic sports fields in Tasmania.
A couple of hours later with the ground set up and ready the mighty Grade 1s began appearing over the rise, entering the arena thanks to the local 'eastern entrance'. From that point in time Abbotsfield Park was the scene of athletic performance rarely witnessed in one place. With House Colours filling the lanes and bopping between novelty events, fun and excitement ruled the morning.
Next up were the grade 2s in their final 'junior' carnival before heading into the big time. Familiar names sped along the track; Wise, Burdon, Beamish and Grace toiling and jostling for the coveted first place gong.
Following the grade 2s were the vibrant and uber excited Kinders! They arrived in a sea of red, blue and yellow, ready for their first ever carnival at HRCS. They competed with great vigour and enthusiasm, the vortexes sliced through the air, the familiar squealing sound bringing delight to the spectators who had amassed around the fence nearby.
As the Kinders exited the arena the staff and Sports Leaders enjoyed 45 seconds of relative silence before our final guests arrived in the form of our Prep crew. Fresh off a move to the demountables they were ready to tear up the track and jump like jumping Jai Tarema in the 2000 Olympic long jump!
All in all a great day was had by all and hopefully next year we'll return to this Field of Dreams with the Wuhan lurgy firmly stuck in 2020. I would like to personally thank the effervescent Mrs Ludwig whose distribution of ribbons and packing up skills were world class, Mr Jones who has nearly mastered the art of starting and the outrageously talented Mr Luttrell whose rake work on the long jump was 'elite'.
