Principals Report

Principal_Students.jpgDear Parents

The end of Term 2 is on Friday 3rd July and it has been without doubt one of the most challenging terms for so many of us. Last Friday we met as a group of Principals in Southern Catholic schools to reflect on the past weeks. We reflected individually and as a group on the crucible moments in relation to our own leadership and our School in relation to what we would do more, do less or do differently moving forward. One of my key reflections was that during this time I have been more able to be present on site at school and the importance of the morning greetings and afternoon farewells.

While we await instructions in relation to the easing or changing of restrictions for parents on site it is important to reflect on the way in which our students have adapted to the changed start of the day. We have all commented and are marvelling at just how settled the majority of our children are as they enter school. They are calm and confident to start the day; ready to engage, feeling proud, feeling independent. Our children have become more capable and empowered.

In looking forward to Term 3 and what this may mean for drop off and pick up we are committed as a school to continuing to have staff at the gate and Kiss and Drop to welcome and assist children as they arrive at school, giving parents the option to continue developing their child’s independence. If parents do return to bringing their child into the school grounds I hope that children will continue to carry their own bags, unpack them ready for the day and that parents will realise the importance of the teacher in the class devoting the early morning times to the children.

I would like to thank all in our community for your support, encouragement and understanding during the past term and I look forward to seeing everyone back for the first day of Term 3 on Monday 20th July.

Kind Regards

Bernadette Brooks
