News from Kindergarten
On Monday, 9th September and Tuesday 10th September the Kinder classes visited Molesworth Environment Centre.
When we arrived we had to cross a tyre bridge and walk up the mountain. At the top of the mountain we found some shelters that other children had built, we pulled apart one and made our own from sticks and logs. After that, we went to visit a small cave. For lunch, we cooked damper on the fire and ate our packed lunch too. Before returning back we stopped to grind ochre and painted each other’s faces.
It was approximately a 1km round trip up the mountain and back down. We were really impressed that everyone walked that far and carried their school bag the whole way.
There were many learning opportunities for students today. Most importantly students had the opportunity to develop dispositions for learning, such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence and persistence. They also learnt about being socially responsible and showing respect for the environment. Students had to take considered risks as they crossed the river on the bridge, walked alongside the river, climbed the mountain and created a shelter. They had to make many decisions and consider those around them to ensure that they and their classmates were safe.
