MJR in Grade 6

Grade 6 were fortunate enough to have Marty Ogle from MJR (Making Jesus Real) come in to visit us in Week 8 of Term 2. Throughout the day, Marty spoke about some of the reasons why we are blessed as people. This had the effect of inspiring, supporting and promoting compassion amongst our Grade Six cohort as they prepare for high school. Marty showed us the importance of persistence through some motivational and truly inspiring documentaries about Tasmanian and Global athletes Matt Bevilacqua, Dwayne Wayde and Luka Jackson. These stories of triumph, selflessness and resilience when faced with adversity have had a lasting impact on our Grade 6's. As such, Grade 6 wrote some letters to Marty thanking him for his visit and his words (and also his unmatched ability to perform magic tricks). You can find parting words from Marty and some Grade 6 students below.

Dear Marty,

Thank you for teaching us MJR. These are some of the things that MJR has taught me over my life... MJR has made me think about school and how MJR will help me through high school. I am really nervous about high school and the stuff Marty has taught me will stick with me for life such as, “ok with a smile”, “don’t talk back” and “to see the good in things and how to be a good spirit”. The video Marty showed us, was about Dwayne Wade and how he helped a lot of people through tough times and I inspire to be like Dwayne Wade. I would like to have the spirit of Jesus in me every day. Thanks, Marty, for all the work you have put in around the schools in Hobart and Australia. You are doing a real good job teaching people the good in things. Thanks again Marty.

Sincerely,

Lara

Dear Marty,

Thank you for teaching us MJR. These are some of the things that MJR has taught me over my life... you have taught me to be more thankful for what I have and how lucky I am to have education because some people don’t have much money to get education. You have really changed my perspective on things, how I should chase my dreams and never give up. I have never ever seen such amazing things. Thank you so much.  I feel sad writing this letter because you have made me feel really good and that other people are struggling in life but my family let me have an education and let me play the sports I want to and put healthy food on the table.

Thank you so so so much you have changed my perspective of how I see things.

Sincerely,

Adam

Dear Marty,

Thank you for teaching us MJR. These are some of the things that MJR has taught me over my life. That it is ok to be scared of high school, and that some people do amazing things for ordinary people. You have impacted my life forever. Every night before I go to bed, I pray the “I am blessed” prayer and when I wake up. I love it and thank you so much for what you have done for me and our Holy Rosary family. You also have changed the way that I look at MJR and I really am interested in the lesson you have shared with us and the stories you have shared with us.

Sincerely,

Bree

Dear Marty,

Thank you for teaching us MJR. These are some of the things that MJR has taught me over my life... did you know when I first came to Holy Rosary, I had no idea what MJR was and now I know heaps because of you thank you very much. Marty from the beginning you have taught me heaps like to be a happy chatty not a nasty pasty. Learning MJR has taught me to see the Spirit of Jesus in myself and others, and to see the good in people. Without MJR don’t think I would be the person I am now. You have also taught me to be a respectful person like to say ok with a smile, not to backchat and to say thank you with people’s names. Marty I also like your magic tricks you have a real talent with that’. You have also taught me what a west person is, four great words to live by welcome, encourage, sorry and thanks. All those words I now am great at because of you. I also got taught what a team is, together everyone achieves more, and that team work makes the dream work. Thank you so much Marty for all this you should be very proud, thanks Marty.

Sincerely,

Jayella
