HRCS @ The Hobart Cup
Over the weekend of 14th and 15th of September, a group of Holy Rosary Grade 2 & 3 students represented the school at The Hobart Cup soccer tournament in the Under 9s division.
The Hobart Cup saw teams come together from all over Tasmania to compete.
Holy Rosary had a stunning start to the tournament on Saturday, defeating Dover 15-0 and New Norfolk 6-1. On Sunday, the team came up against some very strong club teams -Taroona and University.
Taroona had a strong tournament, having scored 41 goals in three games prior to meeting Holy Rosary. A very tight and even game ensued and despite playing amazingly well with Holy Rosary narrowly losing 2-0.
Sunday evening saw what was effectively a game to determine the runner up -like Taroona, University also had a strong tournament. University hit the scoreboard first, however Holy Rosary scored the next three goals before University scored another, leading to an exciting finish. Some brilliant team defence and an amazing goal line save saw Holy Rosary the victor and take out the “Runner Up” position in Division 2.
The team showed brilliant teamwork and were great sports throughout the tournament, with many other teams and tournament organisers commenting.
