HRCS Athletics Carnival
2022 has certainly been one to remember in regards to our relationship with Mother Nature. Autumn provided us with much precipitation and a revised Cross Country Carnival. Mother Nature's wrath would strike again come late October, denting the spirits of the masses keen to prove themselves in athletic competition. With a back up day of November 1st we all prayed that the worst of the weather was behind us.
Thankfully, that hidden gem of the Northern Suburbs, the field of dreams for many a Claremont local; Abbotsfield Park had absorbed Mother Nature's fury and provided us with a great surface to compete on!
Over the day there were some terrific performances, none more so than in the Grade 6 100m races. Aiden 'Mudgee' Mudge clearly bristling from last year's 2nd place, used his legs like springs to hurl himself down the track and take first place in a heartstopping Division 1 race.
In the Girls Division 1 100m race Hollie McCormack burst from the pack in her first race for two years, flying through the finish line completing the perfect comeback!
Congratulations to all our students and staff for getting amongst the carnival and making it a tremendous day. In the end, a great day was had by all. The mighty Young, all conquering so far in this decade, took out the Athletics Carnival shield once again in a commanding performance.
A big thanks to Miss French, Mr Van Tienen and Mrs Piesse for all their help on the day. Thanks also to Mr Riza for all his help setting up with the sparrows and Mr Jones for abandoning his morning yoga routine to unlock the toilets and provide some comic relief.

Interschools Athletics Carnival
The elite of HRCS athletics assembled for the 2022 Inter-primary carnival at the Domain Athletics Centre. There was a steely resolve amongst the group as it was the quietest bus ride I have experienced in 17 years of teaching! The famous Domain northerly was absent and the sun shone on the stadium of light that is the Domain Athletics Centre.
It was a day to remember for our school, with some of the great performances from both our emerging stars and household names. We kicked off the day with the irrepressible Jake Beams leaving the 800m field in his wake. He backed up with a come from behind win in the 400m taking out the lung-busting double!
Aiden Mudge, the new face of HRCS sprinting took out the boys Grade 6 Division 1 title, making him the fastest lad at the meet. A tremendous effort.
Harry Patterson has quickly emerged as one of the great throwers in HRCS history. He took the highest honour in the boys Grade 3 Vortex, perhaps a young Tom Brady in the making?
There were some great performances throughout the day and our team was impeccable in regards to the behaviours we expect from our representatives.
A big thanks to Ms Reeve for all her help and Mr Bourke for confirming that sunscreen is not a 'maybe' but an absolute must.
