As the sun slowly rose over the sleepy Derwent river last Friday, the PE team was feverishly preparing for the 2019 House Cup Cross Country Carnival. By 9 o'clock the stage was set, mother nature had looked after us with blue skies and a light smatttering of dew that would surely destroy its fair share of socks.
The Kinder Prep speed machines kicked off proceedings flying off at a rate of knots, only to discover that ones top speed cannot be maintained for long!
Next up Grade 1 and Grade 2 ventured out on the main course traversing the hills and ensuring they 'followed the orange cones!'.
Heading into the afternoon the senior school entered the fray, beginning with the grade 3's in their first senior carnival, the pocket rocket, Jake Beams, tore up the track, in fact I'm pretty sure the wind had trouble keeping up with him!
The grade 4's were equally impressive over their two laps. Maddison Lennox and Ella Cunningham leading the way in the girls race making aerobic exercise look oh so easy!
Next up the Grade 5's, who for the first time were doing 3 laps of the course. Brianna Burdon and Imogen Salter thrived on the extra distance zooming through the course in near record time!
As the storm clouds brewed above Mt. Faulkner the school community gathered around the finish line for the Grade 6's final ever cross country race. DJ Jessica George provided tunes and light entertainment, as one by one the 6's crossed the finish line! Millie Richardson and Jesse Cox completing a "Young" double up and set the tone for a yellow resurgence! Overall it was the might of "Young" that prevailed for the first time in 7 years!!!
The "Young" Falcons are on the rise in 2019....rumour has it Brad Scott and Brendan Bolton have enquired about coaching them. A massive thanks needs to go to Mr Simonetis, Mr Jones and Miss Wise for their help in setting up on the day and to all the staff, students and parents who made it a carnival to remember!
