This week is Catholic Education Week. Catholic Education Week provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the strengths and achievements of our 38 Catholic schools across Tasmania, as well as the people who contribute to Catholic Education Tasmania’s ongoing success.
The theme for Catholic Education Week in 2021 is ‘Faith in the Future’, reflecting our mission to form students in their faith, and to provide an education that enables our students to make a meaningful contribution to the world.
During this week outstanding educators and staff within our schools are recognised for their contributions to Catholic Education. This year two of our staff members have been recognised for their contributions:
Bernadette Brooks has been nominated and will receive the highest award attainable within Catholic Education Tasmania, for Exemplary Contribution to Catholic Education.
Sue Reardon has been nominated and will receive an award for Outstanding Service as an Employee within Catholic Education Tasmania.
We will celebrate these achievements with a special ceremony this week where they will be presented with these awards. Congratulations Bernie and Sue.
Lauren McCallum
Acting Principal
Celebrated annually in Term 3, Catholic Education Week (CEW) is an opportunity for all Catholic Schools in Tasmania to celebrate and promote their distinctive mission and ethos.
Catholic Education strives to make a difference in the lives of ALL who attend our school and in the wider community by challenging our students to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate and contributing members of society.
This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is Faith in the Future. At our Catholic Education Week Assembly on Monday 9th August, all classes presented an item which reflected the individual ways their class celebrated Catholic Education Week. We greatly enjoyed our school choir who sang the beautiful Faith in the Future song written in celebration of 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia.
At Holy Rosary we endeavour to work with our families to communicate openly and deal with concerns accordingly. We are however unable to deal with problems and concerns that we do not know about.
We kindly ask that parents make contact with the class teacher or leadership team to address any concerns and refrain from using social media to post concerns that the school is unaware of.
This week I sent a reminder to all of our families about adherence to our school’s Hair and Jewellery policy, which can be found on our school’s website.
I particularly drew attention to the following points:
- Hair of shoulder length or longer is to be worn tied back as a health and safety measure (for boys and girls).
- Excessively gelled or styled hair is considered unacceptable: This includes razor cut designs in the hair.
Thank you for your cooperation in following the information outlined in this policy.
As part of our ongoing commitment to continuously improving the school, we believe it is critical to seek each parent and guardian’s opinion on a range of issues relating to Holy Rosary Catholic School. Your feedback is very important to us as, and as such, we have engaged the services of MYP Corporation to undertake a strictly private and confidential survey. This survey should take approximately 10 - 15 minutes to complete and will need to be completed between Tuesday 27th July and Tuesday 17th August.
Parents were emailed individual logins and you will receive friendly reminders until you have completed the survey.
If you require any assistance with this please check your junk or spam folders before contacting Sharon Goldsworthy at sharon.goldsworthy@catholic.tas.edu.au or 6275 5200.
Kindergarten Sibling Interviews
We are currently interviewing those students beginning Kindergarten next year in 2022 who already have siblings within our school. If you have received acceptance of enrolment for next year but are yet to book an interview for your child, please ring 6275 5200 to book a time.
Last week I sent a letter home to parents of our grade 5 students outlining that grade 7 enrolments for our current grade 5 students are due on Friday 10th September. Families may like to make appointments where possible to tour schools and collect enrolment forms from Colleges. If anyone needs support we are happy to work with families to complete enrolment forms or provide contacts in Colleges.
Grade Five students have been studying very hard looking at the adaptations of animals in the environment and how they change their bodies to survive. From the Thorny Devil to the Cassowary, students have embarked upon a journey of discovery and created some lovely work based on Australian animals and their adaptations.
They have enjoyed creating animal mini posters, of which we have just a small sample here to show you.
Grade Six had the privilege of visiting Parliament House as part of our unit of work on Democracy and Government. 6PM were lucky enough to meet the Speaker of the House, Mr. Shelton and Independent Member for Clark, Miss Johnson. 6L were lucky enough to meet Member for Elwick, Mr. Willie, Legislative Council President, Mr Farrell and also Speaker, Mr Shelton. On both tours, students were showcased around the Legislative Council, the House of Assembly and the customs museum.
Elise Archer MP has made a personal donation towards the cost of the Grade 6 leavers tops and end of year Leavers dinner. Craig Farrell MP has also very kindly made a donation to our Grade 6 Leavers celebrations. We thank them both for their generosity.
Unfortunately this year due to supply pressures we will not be able to host a Father’s Day Stall. We will however celebrate the special people in our lives with a family breakfast. Please save the date for this special occasion - all family members welcome!
Back to School Uniform Pre-Orders (Due 17th September 2021)
To assist with ordering uniform stock for the 2022 year, please complete the BTS GOOGLE form and return by the due date. This will enable enough uniforms to be purchased to meet the needs of the school community. You can exchange or return uniform items if not required or they do not fit.
IF YOU DO NOT PRE-ORDER there will be no guarantee that all uniform items will be available.
There will be a limit of one item off the shelf per customer with further quantities going on back order for all purchases on QKR, via the uniform shop or order forms returned after the due date of 17 September 2021. Please be aware that some of our designed uniform pieces have a twelve week production time frame.
Pre-ordered uniforms can be paid for when you place your order, OR before the end of term 4, OR on the allocated collection days via the office.
Further information will be provided regarding uniform shop appointments/opening later in the year.
National eSmart Week is a week where schools come together to promote the smart, safe and responsible use of digital technology. This year we will particulary focus on communicating online with each other in kind and responsible ways. When we post things onine we need to consider:-
- Is it true?
- Is it necessary?
- Is it kind?
