Dear Parents and Guardians
On behalf of the school community I would like to extend a special welcome to our Kindergarten children and to students who are commencing at Holy Rosary Catholic School for the very first time. We also welcome to our Holy Rosary Catholic School community Clara, Edie, Nina, Hunter, Valencia, Isabella, Mabel, Xavier and Marshall.
We welcome back Mrs Catherine Perkins from Parental Leave. We also welcome to our Holy Rosary Catholic School community Emily Berry (Administration), Belinda McCreghan (Teaching Assistant), Olivia French (Teaching Assistant), Georgia Hay (Trainee), James Bourke (Trainee), April Bradford, Cody Peterson, Montana Hills and Veronika Rabosea our Catholic Care Ludo educators. I would like to thank all staff for the dedication and commitment during January to ensure our school environment is ready for our students.
2021 is indeed a very unique year in the history of Holy Rosary Catholic School. It is our 60th Anniversary. It is the very first year we welcome three years olds into our community with our partnership with Catholic Care. It is also the year that we will have the majority of our buildings completed and after the devastation of January 2020 we are all feeling very relieved to be returning to a school that continues to grow and provide an outstanding environment for all our students.
Once again I look forward to working with you and your child/children in 2021 and please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email at bernie.brooks@catholic.tas.edu.au

Principal
Prayer for the Start of the School Year
God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being,
for mind, body and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin
a new school year.
Bless them and our staff and our community.
Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
On Thursday 28th January all Holy Rosary Staff gathered in a Prayerful and reflective context with members of the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office to be guided in reflection on PILGRIMAGE. Staff engaged in discussions and activities on Pilgrimage, aspects of the Camino and joined together to participate in a Labrynth on our school Netball Court. As a staff we then walked through the local neighbourhood up to Poimena Reserve to celebrate an outdoor Mass with our Parish Priest, Father Suresh. This was a very moving Mass whilst contemplating the beautiful outlook from above Austin’s Ferry and Claremont.
The focus of this Mass was the important role we play, on our journey as educators, on pilgrimage with our students and families – journeying with them on their own pilgrimage of life with its challenges and joys. We thank Mrs Leanne Prichard, Mrs Tricia Phillips and Father Suresh for facilitating this Spirituality Day for Staff.
Within the first few weeks of Term 1 we will aim to have moved into our new library space, student hub, canteen, additional group spaces and mapali. In addition the Early Learning Centre will be completed during Term 1. Due to the building works for the Early Learning Centre the Hall has been licenced for Ludo and therefore we have had to make some changes in relation to access to the school as sent out to parents via Compass notification. We will also be unable to hold our assembly gatherings in the Hall for the next few weeks. Our Prep students will currently remain in the buildings on the Oval and meetings with the architectural firm are continuing for the design of our new Prep spaces.
In 2021 we continue to operate under a Covid-19 safety plan. Existing signage continues to be in place and Holy Rosary Catholic School has registered as a business for the Covid-19 Check-in-TAS App. We are required to discourage parents socially lingering/chatting onsite within our areas around buildings. While exceptions were made for the first day return, we are encouraging all parents to drop at the door and refrain from entering the classrooms in the morning. Staff will be available to support with separation where required. Parents are strongly encouraged to use Kiss and Drop as much as possible which will continue to be supervised each morning.
In addition to assisting with the expectations for our Covid-19 safety plan, we also found in 2020 that our students were settled, engaged and ready to learn so the teachers attention can be focused on them from 8:30am each morning.
- School shoes are to be black leather lace-ups for boys and girls or Mary Jane type shoes for girls. Canvas or skate shoes are not acceptable. Black shoes with white soles and symbols are also not acceptable. Parents will be contacted if students continue to come to school wearing the incorrect uniform or shoes. This has been made explicit in all communication with parents over a number of years and unfortunately continues to be an issue. Students may change into sports shoes during the day for morning tea and lunch, but must change back into their black school shoes before heading home.
- The new rugby top is now the only rugby top to be worn, we have had a two year change over period and this has now ceased.
- All Kindergarten to Grade 2 students will be in the sports uniform each day.
- Students from Grade 3 to 6 are only to be in sports uniform on designated Sports Days. If for any reason a student needs to wear the incorrect uniform, a note must be provided by parents to the class teacher. Students in the upper grades who continue to wear the incorrect uniform will be issued with minor level slips.
QKR ordering is still the preferred method of purchasing uniform items.
Parent Teacher Student Goal Setting Interviews (22 - 26 February)
From the 22nd to 26th February, Prep to Grade 6, will be holding Student / Parent / Teacher Goal Setting Interviews with your child’s class teacher. Each student must accompany their parent/guardian to these 15 minute interviews and work together to set goals for the 2021 school year. The process of setting goals allows students to choose where they want to go in school and what they want to achieve. By knowing what they want to achieve, they know what they have to concentrate on and improve. Goal setting gives students long-term vision and short-term motivation. Having sharp, clearly defined goals, which students can measure, will allow them to take pride in accomplishing those goals. They can see clear forward progress in what might have seemed a long drawn out process. By setting goals students can: improve their academic performance, increase their motivation to achieve, increase pride and satisfaction in performance and improve their self-confidence.
On Wednesday 10th February we will be sending home information about how to book these interviews through Compass. If you are unable to access Compass please speak to the office staff about readministering your login details. All bookings need to be made before Wednesday 17th February. Please note that these interviews are compulsory.
Please note that parking within the school grounds is for staff only and those with a disabled parking permit. There are some diagonal parking spaces opposite the EYC but all other parking is in the Church Car Park or behind the shops. Parents should not be driving through the car park during school times.
Please ensure absolute care when driving through Kiss and Drop and the school crossing, as the safety of our students and families is of paramount importance to all.
The date for this event will be sent home shortly. We are aiming to be able to have some of our new spaces open for parents to see the changes that have occurred in our school in the past 18 months.
