Dear Parents & Guardians,
This week Catholic schools around the state are celebrating ‘Catholic Education Week’. This is a wonderful time to reflect on all the wonderful opportunities we provide, the care for each individual student and the way we work together as a school community. Yesterday, Mrs Piesse, our Grade 6 Student Leaders, representatives from Grade 5 and myself attended Mass at St Mary's Cathedral to celebrate this important week in our school calendar. The theme for this year’s Catholic Education Week is - Joyful in Hope, Faithful in Prayer’. This theme embodies our commitment to upholding Catholic values while nurturing a spirit of optimism and resilience.
At the conclusion of Mass a small number of schools (including ours) received a certificate from His Grace, Archbishop Julian Porteous. Holy Rosary was presented with a certificate commemorating the acceptance of our ‘Response the the Archbishops Charter’. Catholic Schools are an important avenue to express the mission of the Church. The pastoral priorities of the Archbishop are outlined and we use these to inspire and guide us in the work in our school. Our response includes actions in four domains: Catholic Identity, Learning, Leadership & Mission.
This week was the first camp opportunity for the year with Grade 5 students and staff heading to Orford on the east coast on Monday morning. The students were nothing short of amazing! Their sense of enjoyment, care for each other and their manners were amazing! We were proud of their efforts throughout the whole trip.
Save the Date - our Annual Family Breakfast will be held from 7:30 am on Friday 30th August. We look forward to welcoming all our families for this lovely occasion!
Catholic Education Week was celebrated in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Tasmania this week, from 12th August until 18th August 2024.
This annual event is held to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is "Joyful in Hope, Faithful in Prayer"’.
Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and walk the way of the gospel to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.
There are 38 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Tasmania that educate around 17,000 students and employ more than 2,600 teachers and staff, and most will celebrate Catholic Education Week in some way.
Our school is planning several activities during the week including Attendance at the Catholic Education Week Mass at St Mary's Cathedral in Hobart and Catholic Education Week Liturgy on Friday 16th for the whole school.
Week 4 of Term 3 saw Grade 5 head to Orford for camp at Spring Beach. It was a great opportunity for everyone to come together to try new things, hang out with mates and learn more about ourselves. We had great fun at the beach, shell collecting, fossicking in rock pools, playing soccer and burying mermaids. Back at camp we conquered the commando course and took on new challenges like street hockey and beach volleyball. We finished up with a day on the green at Orford Bowls Club and a quick visit to historical Richmond (and its legendary lolly shop!). Congratulations on a great camp Grade 5!
