Dear Parents & Guardians,
This week I have commenced Kindergarten Interviews for our 2025 classes. This is always a wonderful time to meet with families and their child/ren. Any families who have a sibling due to commence Kinder in 2025 please collect an enrolment form from the school office or download one from our website. Kinder 2025 enrolments close for all students, including siblings on Friday 10th May.
Congratulations to our student leaders, staff and students who were recently commissioned at a whole school liturgy. It is exciting to see them already embracing opportunities and suggesting innovative ideas. We are grateful to have such a wonderful group of student leaders this year.
Thank you to Mr Ben Johnson and the many staff who contributed to the successful running of the Grade 3-6 Swimming Carnival. We had a new venue this year at New Norfolk Pool, due to the closure of Glenorchy Pool. It was a fabulous day with many students participating and enjoying the opportunities both inside and outside the pool. Congratulations to those students who have been selected in the squad to train for the upcoming Catholic Interschool Carnival.
All parents and students (Prep - Grade 6) have had the opportunity to meet with the class teachers recently. It is great to get on the same page and think about the aims for the years ahead. We thank parents, students and staff for the time and effort to attend and participate.
Finally, thank you to the many parents who have heeded my request not to park in front of the businesses in Wyndham Road Shopping Centre, your support of these businesses in keeping the car spaces free for customers and clients is appreciated.
Reflection - Commencement Ceremony
On Wednesday 28th February we celebrated our 2024 Commencement and Commissioning Liturgy in our School Hall. The parents of our 2024 school leaders joined us in celebrating not only the beginning of our 2024 School year but the commissioning of their children as a school leader.
We welcomed all members of our school community as we began a year of faith, learning and love. As we celebrated we thought carefully about our faith and how we can use it as a guide for our work, actions and friendships throughout the 2024 school year.
We listened deeply to God’s message of beauty, truth and goodness that encourages us to move towards wholeness.
As our student leaders received their leadership badges, blessed by Fr Suresh, our students prayed the following:
We congratulate the following student leaders for 2024:
School Captains: Mackenzie Berry & William Bray.
Vice School Captains: Poppy Roberts & Cooper Doddridge.
DoyleHouse Captains: Blake Young & Zahlia Goss.
D'Arcy House Captains: Fletcher Erends & Hallie Wickham.
Young House Captains: Jordan Lewis & Tilly Maddox.
Hi Parents & Carers,
Welcome to our Year 2 news. We have had a very busy start to the year and have enjoyed getting to know your child.
We are pleased to let you know what we have been learning so far. Our focus in English
has been writing narratives. We have had a lot of fun coming up with imaginary characters and creating a narrative around them.
Handwriting practice is well underway, and we have been revising verbs and adjectives.
Maths has included lots of skip-counting, subitising, addition and subtraction as well as
looking at calendars. The students are enjoying using their mini whiteboards throughout their maths lessons.
We started our first Wellbeing Wednesday lesson, and it was a huge success. We hope that you enjoy some photos from our tower building activity.
Swimming Carnival Recap with Mr Johnson
Thursday the 29th of February 2024, a day that will go down in Holy Rosary sports history. For the first time the proud Houses of the Rosary headed North, venturing to the fabled Valley town of New Norfolk and its historic aquatic and leisure centre. Mother nature provided us with all of her wares; sun, wind, rain and an air temperature perfect for aquatic pursuits. So good that even the marshalling tent wanted to go for a swim!
As the clouds remained a constant threat hovering above us with a dark grey hue, our swimmers participated with great enthusiasm, courage and Holy Rosary spirit as the 50m distance was new to many of our kids from grades 4-6. We welcomed our grade 3 swimmers for the first time and discovered new talents and skills and a decibel level that rivals a jet engine on full throttle.
There were some tremendous efforts from many of our students but it was a 'Berry' good day for a couple of sisters who nearly got the clean sweep in all of their events! Ultimately a great time was had by all who attended and we would like to thank Terry and the team at the New Norfolk Pool for taking us on and giving us the opportunity to have our carnival there.
A massive thanks needs to go to our parents and spectators who filled the stands with positivity and encouragement and maintained a level of cheering akin to the Olympics of 2000. In addition, a big thanks to Ms Reeve, Mrs Piesse and the Utility crew of Mr Riza and Mr Taylor for all your efforts setting up and recording on the day and we can't forget the efforts of Mr Clarke, Mr Bourke and Hannah Direen who defied the general consensus regarding millennials and did their jobs on the finishing line magnificently! The day ran smoothly but as we extended the Novelty time at the end, the winning House presentation was postponed- we'll complete this in the coming weeks!
